To cherish each moment before us. To care for the people we meet with love. In Japan, we call this spirit Ichigo-ichie —“one lifetime, one meeting.”
In the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, we embrace this spirit by sharing a bowl of matcha and a piece of wagashi, offering our whole heart to the people we spend that moment with.
In the tea ceremony, everything is devoted to that one unrepeatable moment.
That is the spirit of the wagashi I love to make.
You may have already tasted matcha. But wagashi is still a part of Japan’s heart that can truly be experienced only here. If you ever visit Japan, I’d love for you to experience wagashi for yourself.
